Leaving a Lot to Be Desired: President Bush Plans to Slash Funds for Neighborhood Services by Cutting Block Grants

Almost two weeks ago I wrote a little diatribe against President Bush’s planned budget cuts for 2006. Two cuts that will hurt neighborhoods like those of north-by-northwest Nashville are cuts to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and the COPS Program (supporting community policing).

Since then, I poked around some sources and found the following details and facts about proposed cuts to the block grant program and the magnitude of the possible damage for neighborhoods like ours.
Those of us who live in urban neighborhoods are going to face an increasingly tougher time demanding quality services for our communities if Congress passes Bush’s proposed cuts. Many of us stand to lose our chances to enhance the quality of life in our communities altogether.
