All But Dead: Council Votes to Disapprove Extension for Downtown Ballpark

Tonight Council Member Mike Jameson moved for disapproval of a 6-month extension in the Memorandum of Understanding between Metro, the Nashville Sounds, and Struever Brothers that he filed for building a Downtown ballpark; the Council voted 38-0 to approve his motion to disapprove. The MOU deadline stays April 15, which means we will not see a Downtown ballpark.

During the discussion Metro advisers disclosed that the laws in Tennessee on defaulting on a contract are tight and Metro would just about have to catch the Sounds saying that they would not comply with the contract in order to charge default, which they have not done. Thus, a six-month extension would merely allow them to continue to fail to do anything constructive.
