The Service Employees International Union, a "host committee member" and "an official sponsor" of last week's Democratic National Convention, has other ethical problems beyond recent charges of double-crossing students.
The Labor Department is investigating charges of payments of hundreds of thousands of dollars by the union and a related charity to firms owned by relatives of the Los Angeles local's president. Union dues were allegedly diverted to a minor league basketball team, a golf tournament, and various organizations.
