The Aggregator of Aggregators and Other Exercises in Redundancy

Remember when the Nashville City Paper used to report its own stories? That was cool.

Now it seems full of links to outside sources. Their online edition suggests to me they see their primary competition as Nashvillest.

  1. To be fair, the outside content they are posting is from their sister online publication. SouthComm owns NashvillePost, City Paper, Business TN, HER Nashville, Nashville Medical News, Music Row, and a Louisville-based pub. I'm not surprised that they share content online across publications when it makes sense.

  2. I should have been more clear about the screenshot inset. It includes links to posts at the SouthComm aggregator PostPolitics, which link two outside sources (KnoxNews & NewsChannel5). The PostPolitics stories are not even really stories. They're links and quotes from someone else's stories. That's pretty much what Nashvillest does. So, in essence, the Nashville City Paper is simply channeling someone else's report under its heading "City News."

I'm not surprised, either, but let's call this what it is: an aggregator of aggregators, not a newspaper.
